But at the same time, I’m not. I want to keep smelling the gas leaks that happen in my hundred-plus-year-old school in the commons on those weird days. I want to fail classes with all my other friends, knowing I’m not the dumbest kid in class. I want to walk a mile each day, from building to building, just to sit in a chair for an hour and thirty minutes. I want to sing in my choirs and destroy paper in art. I want to learn how to skateboard from one of the skateboarders that hang outside the library doors. I want to be a big sis for someone in A Capella next year and show newcomers the ropes in Chamber Singers. I want to spend my mornings in the cafeteria drinking coffee and blabbing to my friends. I want to walk to the doughnut shop on fun mornings, running across the street through busy traffic. I want to sing the Alma Mater on game day mornings and watch the seniors pound the tables with their feet as they scream the senior chant…
or be there long enough to do it myself.
I want to sing, dance, paint, write in my school.
But now I know I only have a few months left until doomsday.
I need to spend as much time with my friends as I can.
Today was filled with horrible reminders of guilt and stress.
No more of that.

Make it through for your friends, just for a little bit longer, hang in there.
